I was a freshman in college, and I remember being in my dorm room one day, and the phone rang. “This is the University Police, is someone there?” I thought it was probably a student trying to get his or her room fixed. When the University Police answered the phone I thought it was probably the Department of Transportation calling. I’m sure the police would say that all the traffic and accidents I was involved in happened in my dorm room.
This story is not as good as the last one, but it might be worth reading nonetheless. According to this story, this was the first time I’ve heard of the University Police actually being on campus, and they are still very much on the prowl. It was nice to hear that they were watching out for the odd student who wanted to get his or her room fixed.
Another story about the University Police is an article about a student that was arrested for attacking a man with a baseball bat. The student claimed that he didn’t even know its a bat and was just defending himself. The University Police are very aware of the dangers of physical confrontation with students, and have a very strict policy on how to handle it. They are always willing to discuss it with you and are very flexible and can help you figure out a plan for how to handle the situation.
The article that I’m writing about is about the University and police departments that are working together to curb these types of violent acts. The University Police are very concerned about violence against students and are always looking for ways to improve their programs and policies regarding this matter.
The University Police is a law enforcement organization that deals with student violence. They are a part of the RCMP, but in terms of student violence they are a little bit different. A police officer from a department is not automatically trained to deal with a student violence situation. Most of the time, a student who is involved in a violent situation will deal with it themselves, usually by going to the police department for help, which is pretty common.
The issue of student violence is one of the most hotly debated issues in campus life. A lot of the discussion centers around whether police should be involved. However, the University Police Department handles crimes committed by students, and student violence is not a crime in the UBC Student Code of Conduct.
In general, it’s best to leave those police calls to the police departments. When university police take an action, it’s not like they are the police of the university. They are there to protect student/employee relationships, not to be the cop of the campus.
Its a little weird that the student newspaper seems to be on the side of the police. The University Students’ Union has been in the news a lot in the past, and this is the first time they are actually taking the side of the police. I’m not sure what the motivation was, but its interesting nonetheless.
The University Students Union seems to be taking a number of steps in the direction of the police. Firstly, last year they were in the news for breaking up an unofficial student protest against the university’s gay-straight alliance policy. That is, they were in the news for throwing a party, but it wasn’t a party for students.
This is the first time the student union is taking on the police. I think the universitys goal in doing this is just to show the police that they are not just the law enforcement agency in some vague abstract sense, but that they are actually a real force on campus. I don’t know this for sure, but I think they are taking this step because the police are getting a bad rap in the media.
