John Pickett is a guy who’s just always been good at video games. He’s self-published a novel, The Deathloop Diary, and he works as a writer and producer for games such as BioShock Infinite, the upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Dead Island. He’s also worked on the video games, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 4 versions of the Metroid: Other M and Metal Gear Solid.
In a bit of related news, we recently had a chat with John about the first chapter of his self-help book. John is a member of the British Game Developer’s Association and the Game Developers Conference.

He created, or co-created, the game, “Warcraft”. It was released in 2004, and is a classic example of what a game designer can do. It was so successful that it sold more copies than any other game released at the time. It was also a game that made fun of itself, with a humorous trailer that showed the game as a giant, giant computer game.
In fact, it was a game that was built around an absurdist story that was not only funny, but actually made you care about the characters. A game is a game because you are playing it. You are not just watching a movie.
The thing about John Pickett, though, is that he was almost a good game, one that was fun to play. But he didn’t do it with the same game mechanic, or within the same context. He did it differently, which makes it a better game. He has a much more unique and interesting story that doesn’t rely on the same basic premise. He has a different idea of what games should be and how they should be played.
