I started making my own bread in 2007, and it’s still a full-time job. I have a small family, a large social life, and a pretty demanding job. I love every part of it though, and am glad to be doing it full-time. My wife, Lisa, and I also make our own butter and yogurt and the occasional home-made pasta, but bread and pasta is something that I am very passionate about.
David is one of the most passionate bread-makers in New Zealand. He makes his bread with a hand-cranked electric mixer and a hand-held dough hook, and he loves how things get turned out. He has about six different kinds of bread in his shop, and each one is unique, so he has to keep an eye on the dough, making sure that he doesn’t get any of his other flavors mixed in.
In his bakery, you get to see the same breads, but different flavors. So you can buy a loaf of bread with a slice of ham, a slice of turkey, a slice of pineapple, and a slice of artichoke.
When you buy a bread from david sullivan, you’re actually buying a different loaf than you would if you were buying another slice of bread. This is because, unlike other breads, he only makes one kind of bread. This is called a “batch” and it keeps him busy.
In its previous incarnation, Sullivan’s bread was sold in six different flavors. We’re not sure if there is a single loaf of bread that can have all six of these different flavors. He is the only bread maker on the island who has all of these different flavors. This is because he works for a corporation.
David says he works for a corporation because he has his own small bakery. He makes bread for his family, but also for his employer, who has never liked his bread. He is a small baker, but he is also a company man, and a corporation man at that. Sullivans bread is a lot like a bread maker who is also a chef. He is a baker, a chef, a baker, and a chef all rolled into one.
This is such a great idea and I just love bread! Although, I will have to be careful about the fact that I am a baker because I’m also a chef. But then again, I guess it’s a good thing that I’ve never had to cook before.
All this talk about bread is very similar to how Sullivans company is similar to a small baker. They are small because they are very small, but they are also small because they are small. It’s the small that matters.
