The concept of account abbreviations is a way to help people remember things easily. You can’t actually see the word, “account”, so it’s helpful to know it as a visual representation. It’s also commonly abbreviated to “A”, “B”, and “C”.
We’ve known for a while that A was a number, and B was a letter, as were C and D. The problem is that people don’t know that they are abbreviations. An A is a letter, an A is not a number, and an A is not a letter. Its easy to mistake them for letters, but not so easy to mistake them for numbers.
I understand that there is a difference between letters and numbers, but there are also a lot of letters and a very few numbers. In fact, a very large number of letters and numbers are abbreviations. You can go to your local library and look up many words, but not so much specific letters and numbers.
In addition to the fact that many abbreviations are often mistranslated as letters, the fact that there are a lot of letters and a very few numbers is not a good thing. If you are looking up an abbreviation or a full name, you should probably stop and think about what you are looking up. If you are doing something like a Google search, you should try to be very specific.
Just because something is abbreviated doesn’t mean it’s not spelled correctly. If you are looking up a word or phrase, you should check the spelling! Some words are spelled with an “s”, and some are spelled with an “r.” If you can’t figure out what you’re looking for in the first place, don’t look up the abbreviation.
A quick note about Google: Google is not a spell checker. So while you should always use proper punctuation (capitalisation, spacing, etc) and capitalize words when possible, if you can’t get the spelling right, don’t look it up, and if you can’t get the spelling correct, don’t look it up.
The thing is that your spelling is not going to change. So if you want to type an “s”, youre going to have to spell it by using the “s”. But if you type “a” you wont need to spell it that way. A word or phrase that is spelled with an s is also called an abbreviation. So if you want to type “a”, you will need to type “ab”.
Just my two cents, but I think it’s good to learn to spell things correctly. And I don’t think it’s a good idea to mix up the capital and the small letters.
Account abbreviations are not a good idea. They confuse Google, and many webmasters will not use them unless they have a specific reason to. Even if you do, you will probably run into problems later, when people Google for your site.
