I’ve been reading a lot about John Hargreaves for the last several months. I’m not sure if it’s because of his accomplishments, the number he has accomplished, or his personal story, but I am a big fan of his work. I think he’s had this place on my mind a while now.
I think its because of this quote from his interview at the New York Times, “I feel a responsibility to make a contribution to the world, to the world in general, to humanity. I feel that I have a responsibility to make an impression on the world and to contribute to the world, and I want to do that by doing what I can about it”. I think that hes one of the most honest people Ive ever read about in regards to his work.
If we’re talking about honesty, I find it hard to believe that anybody who works in the creative industries and has worked in magazines would be so honest. To be honest, I think this is because we all have a filter in our heads and that filter is just too thick to be honest about anything. I think this is one of the reasons why we can have to many filters in how we process the world, and that’s why we can’t be honest with each other.
The problem with being honest is that you can only be honest with yourself, and when you are always so honest with yourself you become untrusting with others. Being honest about being an artist is just not something you should be doing, and just as you are not the same person as you were just a few days ago, you probably shouldn’t be telling others that you are an artist. It is just not true.
This is a common problem that artists deal with, as well, and to be honest you need to be honest because you need to be true to the truth of what you are. I can tell you that I am no longer a painter, I am an artist. I have been for many years now and I am no longer a painter, I am an artist. I make paintings from the heart and I paint them with intention and with love. I am an artist.
