I want to hear more about how he’s saving the world from a robot apocalypse but I think the trailer does a good job of showing that he isn’t the only person doing this.
I think theres a tendency in trailer-land to paint the whole thing in terms of the game itself. There is little to no story and while we know that Colt is making it his mission to save the Visionaries from Robot Apocalypse, there is little about the game itself. The trailer is just showing Colt trying to survive, and that is all. It doesnt really paint the game in any other way than how its gonna be.

In the original Deathtrap, the player can send messages to the island, which will explain why they’re doing this. In Deathloop, though, the messages are just that, and the messages are all in the form of letters, so that the player doesnt have to worry about why they are doing what they’re doing.
The game is designed around the idea that the player is in a sort of deathloop, and that the player should be able to figure out why they are doing what theyre doing in the game and use it to stop them. We dont really know if these messages are meant to be literal or if theyre just some sort of riddle the player is trying to figure out. There is no obvious explanation for why someone would be doing what theyre doing, so it just adds to the mystery.
