For those unfamiliar with the video game industry, we probably all remember the last time we were all at the same place at the same time playing a new game like Halo or Gears of War. However, 2006 saw the release of two games that changed the game industry forever. The first was GTA IV and the second was Grand Theft Auto V. GTA IV was the first new FPS to be released in the new millennium (although of course some of you may disagree with this statement).
GTA IV was an awesome game, but it was released before the FPS craze of the late 90s. It was originally released in 1993, but due to a lack of interest due to its violent nature, it was made in 2004. This probably is what made it an instant hit so much more than other games, because people were literally obsessed with the game.
GTA IV is still a great game, but it’s still not the first great FPS made in the late 90s. The original Doom was more like a shooter, more than anything else. And if you look back at the history of FPS games, FPS games were an incredibly popular genre. And in a lot of ways they still are.
The last two years have been tough, because in many ways these games have been a godsend of the game’s popularity. We’re still here. But we’ve made several great games so far and are now excited about our next one.
