Well, you don’t have to identify the good parts of yourself, you just have to identify the parts you need to change. The good things are what you need to become better. The bad things are not. You just have to be able to identify the parts that are bad. It’s basically the same thing as a healthy diet, the body needs to be able to process certain things, like fat, sugar, and salt, it needs to be able to separate the good from the bad.
In some ways this is a good thing, it allows us to identify bad things and change them. In other ways it’s a bad thing, because it means we are unable to identify the good things, the things that are necessary for us to be happy and healthy.
For most of us, good things like sex and food are easily identified and replaced with bad things like cigarettes, alcohol, and video games. The fact that we can even identify them, and change them, is what separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom.
