July 8, 2005

I just came across one more of those spam blogs, and this one seems to be using one of my feeds to steal content from WITHOUT providing a link back.

Although its only one small post, this is something new for me, so I’m still considering my options. Should I send them a polite note asking them to remove my content?

What do you think? Sorry the comments are not working right now - am getting that fixed (hopefully by today) so email me to send in your suggestions.

  1. Priya,

I often refer to your content on some of my blogs but I always give you credit. The guy who just copied and pasted is an idiot. You should send him a silent note (nicely) and ask for him to link to you. Do a Who is search and see who they are. I typically don’t have other marketers take my content down but often they may be profiting from it which gets me a little angry. Overall, I like the publicity and am often flattered by this. However, if it seems they are passing it on as their work, that’s just not right and I post them on a few sites that monitor this activity.

  2. Hi Mike,
I’m sure you do give me credit when citing my posts. The idiots who create these spam blogs (which I wrote about earlier here http://www.numberoneinyourniche.com/blog/2005/01/blogs-and-pings-and-rankings-oh-my.html) are usually fly-by-night operators only interested in short term profits.

Complaining to them would hardly be a solution. There are too many of them out there and they are stealing content from too many blogs to really care about copyright anyway.

Hopefully search engines will come up with better solutions to filter out sites created by these automated blog-spam tools.
